Dr. Amelia Kelly is the Director of Speech Technology at Soapbox Labs and has more than a decade’s experience, spanning academia and industry, in the areas of speech signal processing, natural language processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Prior to joining Soapbox Labs, she worked as a speech recognition engineer in a Silicon Valley start-up, helped to create the natural language processing and dialog systems for IBM Watson, and contributed to the development of the first Irish language speech synthesiser at Trinity College. She holds a PhD in Speech Technology, and an M.Phil in Linguistics, both from Trinity College Dublin, and a B.Sc. in Physics and Astronomy from National University of Ireland, Galway. As well as various academic publications, she holds a patent in the area of cognitive computing, and is a regular speaker at technical conferences and summits in Ireland and abroad.
